An important tool for investing, demystified.

Younger investors have less money to play with. That's a fact of life. Let's say you take some of your savings, say, $500 to speculate with, investing in equities is frankly boring.

If I buy a share of AAPL and it has an incredible day, up 10%, I make $15. Great. Drink on me. But it’s not going to change my life.

Not to mention I can’t even afford one share of AMZN.

But this isn’t the case with options.

One key difference from stocks is the leverage options give you to control more shares with less money. Investing in options is riskier than stocks, and as with most things in life, for a greater reward you need to take more risk. This is why many more professionals suggest that options are an appropriate investment vehicle for a small slice of your investments in which you are willing to take greater risk for a greater potential reward.

When buying an option contract you have control over multiple factors, including the target price and timeframe the option will be good for. This allows a trader to make more interesting trades without needing as much capital.

All investments involve risk and past performance of a security does not guarantee future results or returns. While diversification may help spread risk, it does not guarantee a profit or protect you against loss in a down market. There is always a potential to lose money when investing in securities, and investors need to fully consider their investment objectives prior to investing.

Through ViewTrade Securities, Inc., a member of the Securities Investor Protection Corporation (SIPC), funds are available to meet customer claims up to a ceiling of $500,000, including a maximum of $250,000 for cash claims. For additional information regarding SIPC coverage, including a brochure, please contact SIPC at (202) 371-8300 or visit www.sipc.org. Our Clearing firm has purchased an additional insurance policy through a group of London Underwriters (with Lloyd's of London Syndicates as the Lead Underwriter) to supplement SIPC protection. This additional insurance policy becomes available to customers in the event that SIPC limits are exhausted and provides protection for securities and cash up to an aggregate of $600 million. This is provided to pay amounts in addition to those returned in a SIPC liquidation. This additional insurance policy is limited to a combined return to any customer from a Trustee, SIPC and London Underwriters of $150 million, including cash of up to $2.15 million. Similar to SIPC protection, this additional insurance does not protect against a loss in the market value of securities.

System response, trade executions and account access may be affected by market conditions, system performance, quote delays and other factors. The risk of loss in electronic trading can be substantial. You should therefore consider whether such trading is suitable for you in light of your financial resources and circumstances.

Investors should carefully consider the investment objectives and risk profile of Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs) prior to investing. The performance of ETFs can vary from the investment result of the targeted underlying indices. Expenses and fees can also impact the performance of ETFs and cause a divergence from the underlying index or ETF investment strategy. ETFs bare risks similar to those of other diversified portfolios. Inverse ETFs and Leveraged ETFs may not be suitable for all investors and may increase exposure to volatility through the short sale of securities, use of leverage, use of derivatives and other complex investment strategies. The ETF prospectus should be read carefully and contains additional critical information about the ETF. Customers should obtain prospectuses from the issuer and/or their third party agent. ETFs are required to distribute portfolio gains to shareholders at year end. These gains may be generated by portfolio rebalancing or the need to meet diversification requirements. ETF trading generates tax consequences for the ETF holder. Additional regulatory guidance on Exchange Traded Products can be found by clicking here.
